Efficient generation of electricity and heat from wood at a scale suitable to local industry and civic developments is a key green cleantech goal. Gasification of wood to drive an engine and generator is fundamentally more efficient than boiling water to drive a turbine and generator, but in the past has not proved easy due to contaminants in the gas fouling the engine and creating unacceptable effluents.

Biomass CHP has developed a process based on downdraught gasification of wood and power generation using a high performance gas engine. The process is environmentally friendly, efficient, produces no liquid effluent, is fully automated and can run unattended for extended periods.
